The Frightening Conditions for Political Prisoners in Iran (Part III)

(Psychological torture methods, continued from part II)

26. Imposing heavy incarceration and probationary sentences

27. Confiscating the belongings of political prisoners

28. Repeated searching of the political prisoner's home while he is incarcerated

29. Cutting off the source of income of the political prisoner's family

30. Transferring political prisoners to frightening prisons located in the Persian Gulf islands and other distant provinces

In addition to the above mentioned, the following conditions obtain in the general cell block units:

1. Placing too many prisoners in small cells

2. No separation of prisoners based on crimes committed; political prisoners are held in the same cells as murderers, violent offenders, and various other criminals

3. Prison guards encourage and instigate non-political prisoners to commit violence against political prisoners

4. The repeated shutting off of water and electricity

5. Planting informants, creating oppressive and frightening conditions in the cell

6. Bringing narcotics into prison via agents of the regime in order to make political prisoners chemically dependent

7. On repeated occasions, prison guards will enter the cell without warning and violently inspect the political prisoner's belongings

8. Silencing every form of legal protest through threats, beatings, and transfer to solitary confinement

9. The low quality and quantity of political prisoners' food

10. Repeatedly barring phone access, recording all telephone conversations

11. Limiting family visitation to once per month

12. In cell block number 209 of Evin prison, prison guards prevent political prisoners from receiving money sent to them from their families; In some instances, these monies are embezzled by cell block 209 prison guards

13. Selling goods to prisoners at twice their market rate

It is necessary to note that non-political prisoners are also subject to most of the same forms of psychological and physical torture. In reality, the Iranian nation as a whole has suffered from the inhumane and anti-human rights policies of the regime.
